What this calculator does
Most retirement tools focus on dollars — how much you'll have, what your nest egg will be worth, what your monthly draw should be. This one is simpler: it just tells you how much time you have left before you can stop trading hours for money.

Frequently asked questions
How is the countdown calculated?
We take your retirement date — either the date you entered directly, or your birth date plus your chosen retirement age — and compare it to today. The difference is shown in days, months, and years. Calendar months are uneven, so the breakdown ("X years, Y months, Z days") uses real calendar arithmetic, not "30 days = 1 month" approximations.
What's the default retirement age, and can I change it?
The default is 65 — the traditional US full-retirement age. You can change it to anything from 50 (FIRE / early-retirement crowd) up to 80 (work-as-long-as-you-want crowd). The calculator updates live.
Is my data saved or shared anywhere?
No. Your birth date and retirement age stay in your browser only — we use localStorage so the page remembers your inputs when you come back, but nothing is sent to a server. Clear your browser data or click "Reset" to wipe it.
Can I count down to a specific date instead of a retirement age?
